did ati lose the crown this time around? did the 5870 lose as the fastest single gpu ?
does the 5970 still outperform the 480?

just curious

thanks

Well, define single GPU.

Single card, 5970 still has the clear lead in performance (and power usage I think).

Single chip, 480 easily beats the 5870, though it does cost a bit more and use substantially more power.

The GTX 480 is now considered the single fastest GPU, but because of its high heat output, high power usage and higher price compared to its ATI counterparts its not the best value.

What will be interesting is to see if ATI tries to counter this in any way. Have been rumors, so we'll see.

HD 5890 maybe?

will the 5890, if there is such a card, would that outperform my dual 5970's?

No it is going to be similar to the GTX260 HD4870 GTX260-216 HD4890 GTX275 war. It will be aimed at besting the GTX480 not the HD5970

Yep, any high OC'ed card or refresh will be an improvement like the 4890 over the 4870. The 4870X2 was still better then too. The next hope for a major improvement won't be until end of 2010/beginning of 2011.
