What do you mean "did not fit"?

(a) Do you mean it does not fit in the graphics card slot of your motherboard?
(b) Is it working but you found out it is not good enough to play you favorite games in your preferred resolution?

(a) or (b)?

He probably didn't have the slot on the board( I think he's using a Intel Original Chipset Mobo, this is the terminology used in these parts of the world (Scam Again)), since most of the companies here and vendors here supply the rigs which they make for Intel without the PCIe slot version Mobos.
It's more of a money making scam, so that when the on board graphics of the boards doesn't allow the consumer to play a medium high end game, he'll come back and ask for a card ( as advised by people around him) and later he'll end up buying a card (which again will not "FIT" on his board) so in turn he shugs out another few K's to get a new board which will support the card, and lol, believe it or not he is going to get the other version of the same old Intel board only difference is with the PCIe slot on it.
And for those who don't know it, the prices are the same for both the boards here.
You actually pay for one with the slot and get one without it.
Awareness is a big issue around here......
I'm not saying the knowledge of IT, but basic awareness......

AGP slot: http://www.tips4pc.com/images/agp_slot.jpg
AGP card: http://img.tomshardware.com/us/2006/02/13/nvidias_gefor...

PCI-express: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/f/f... (long slots)
PCI-express card: http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/5792/mauo4um7vday141...

If you have neither, you cannot update your graphic to anything else but a traditional pci card which is worthless or almost worthless (maybe worth only for HTPC, even that is questionable).

Also, AGP slot is an ancient history.

And this is for the laughter: http://www.tech-forums.net/pc/f6/nvidia-7800-wont-work-...
Don't even think about doing anything like that.
