Boot Gateway PC from CD

We have a 12-year-old Gateway 2000 computer that we want to recycle but need to remove some information about our horse boarding business. Unfortunately, it has been so long since we have used this computer that we are no longer able to remember the password we need to access the information. Is there any way to get into the computer records without this password? Thanks for any help you can give us
