Hi,
I am currently using a 512MB 9800GT with a rubbish 1024x768 monitor, so i plan on buying a 1080p monitor at the end of the month. I realise that the 9800GT is underpowered for this resolution so i will upgrade to a 5770 but i won't be able to afford this until the middle of June so and i have two questions:

1) During the time that i am using the 9800GT with the 1080p monitor will i even be able to play games at acceptable framerates?

2) I plan on getting a 5770 but i'm worried about its performance at 1920x1080...what can i expect?

thanks in advance to anyone who replies to this thread!

Full specs:

Phenom II 955
Sapphire 790 GX mobo
4 GB OCZ 1600 MHZ RAM 7-7-7-20
700W Everest PSU

HD5770 handles most games very well at 1920 x 1080 (there is always Crysis). The 9800GT should be able to handle most games with lowered in game settings. You can as well lower the resolution from native if it is struggling.

I have never even played crysis! so i won't be doing anything too taxing. At themoment i am playing dragon age and when i have finished that i will start Mass Effect 2. Will these run ok with the 9800GT and then the 5770?

You should be fine here are some benchmarks http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,703669/Mass-Effect-2-Galactic-battle-Geforce-versus-Radeon/Practice/ The HD5770 is not there but has comparable performance with HD4870 and 9800GT=8800GT

with that resolution i think you better off upgrade your GPU to a better one if you want get better performance and eye candy. but i know a person who using 8800GT at that resolution and he still able to push some game setting to medium or even high and still have nice frame rates. but that guy really pushing his card to the limit. he just OCed the card to crank up more performance

He is going HD5770 in four months.
