I need to buy a motherboard with 6 or above SATA ports. I am just upgrading my motherboard for connecting more hdd's. So will a motherboard having LGA 1156 socket support Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4Ghz or not or I need to buy a processor too ??

Best solution

a b V Motherboard

No. A Q6600 is an LGA775 processor, and will not fit an LGA1156 board. You will need to get a different processor for an 1156 board, or......

A) Find a 775 board with more SATA ports
B) Add a PCI / PCI-e SATA card (they typically add another 2 - 6 ports)

Thanks Man You relieved me. Can you tell me some of the cards which can help me add 4 or 6 SATA ports to my system ??

Throw out your old hard drives and replace your current ones with Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB's. Then you don't need more slots and your system will speed up.

Buying a SATA controller you get additional SATA ports on your system without changing mobo

Have you considered a NAS for your storage needs? Does all the storage need to be local?

@fells Well NAS is something very costly. I need to buy Server Rack like a Dell Power Vault or something like that only companies do that not individuals. I think you know that. Any cheap means of NAS can you suggest ??

I use a custom built NAS with old computer parts running unRAID.
