Hello, I am looking to buy a new gaming laptop for college sometime in the near future. One of the laptops I am looking at comes with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870. I was wondering if the laptop version of the card is as powerful as the desktop version. I am new to ATI products, and am also wondering what this card would compare to on an Nvidia laptop graphics card.

Best solution

Take a look at the hierarchy chard there. The 5870m is not as fast as the desktop version, but mobility cards rarely match the performance of their same-named desktop counterparts. You can see the mobility 5870 is about where a 5770 is. Its still the best mobility card at the moment.
