5770 crossfire on 8x/8x worth it to upgrade my GTX 260?

I currently have

Phenom II X4 955be
2x2gskill 1333mhz ddr3 ram
GTX 260 core 216
Gigabyte 890GPA motherboard with 2 pci-e slots. I believe one of the slots is full 16x and if I put a second card in it splits it 8x/8x

Would it be a worthwhile upgrade for me to get two 5770 crossfired?

Also, I have a thermaltake 600watt purepower psu. Would I need a new psu?

  1. First off, you'll get around an 85% performance increase from your GTX 260 (almost double!).

Second, your PSU is just fine.

Third, an HD5770 wont be limited by a PCIex8
  2. 2x HD5770 rivals HD5870 in performance for the price of a HD5850. HD5770 ~ GTX260. So the short answer is YES!
  3. Awesome. Now if I can just get some sucker to buy my gtx260core216 for $150 hah

Can you tell me why it won't be limited by the pciex8? Is it because the 5770 isn't fast enough to limit it? I never really understood how that bandwidth stuff worked on motherboards.
  5. You are correct, it's not fast enough.
