How to trasfer files from an external hard drive into a new computer?

Right, so I had an HP Pavilion Slimline and it got a virus and wouldn't alow it to turn on, so I couldn't back up any of my files, I'm not too computer smart so I kind of destoried everything but my hard drive, now Iv'e got a new computer, (HP Pavilion P6) and I want to transfer my old files rom the Slimline hard drive into the P6 without getting the virus, can this be done? If so HOW?! This is driving me up the wall.

Install an AV program on your new PC then plug the old HDD in as a secondary drive inside your new PC. Then run a full scan on the old drive from within your new operating system.
