Why is there no cool dvd tray that does flipz n *** when you press a strobing blue button? Every tray nowadays is just the same old same old. Matte black, flat plastic panel, rectangular matte black button. I want one that would impress me and make me want to use it.
Anyone else? Or are the $14 you spend on the trays too much as it is?

The low cost of available optical burners is probably the main reason. I think manufacturers are not willing to spend money retooling when the cost of the currently available players is so low. Also, the fact that most of the devices on the market are manufactured by Lite-On and re-branded is an issue.

because most people don't use their drive and is only used on rare occasions. the demand for "flashy" drives is very low and would cost the company way to much money to produce. if one wanted a flashy drive, then someone can just do a DIY project and modify it themselves if they must.
