Hello,
I have a 1.5 G hard drive that is just over one year old. Windows reports failure is imminent. Ran chkdsk and says all is OK.
I can replace the hard drive but how do I know it isn't another error causing the problem?
Chkdsk checks the filesystem, not the hard drive itself. If Windows says that the hard drive is about to fail you can get a second opinion by using a program such as "Crystal Disk Info"
Thank you. I ran the test and it confirmed that the drive is severly overheating and in danger of failing. Apparently this is not uncommon for Seagate 1.5 TBs even if only just out of warrenty at 1 year.
