Quick question about crossfiring.

This may seem like a pretty simple question but I figured it'd be more reasonable to ask before I blew 300 dollars. I bought one of the 1st 5850's that came out by HIS (The one with ATI's standard heatsink). Now, however, they only have the new iCoolerV model. The older one is basically non-existent (mind a few used auctions on ebay). Is it still safe to crossfire these two cards even thought they're slghtly different models. Both HIS 5850's but just slightly different. thanks for the help everyone.
