What are the advantages and disavanteges of using a 5400 rpm or 7200 rpm hard drive (both 750GB) in a laptop? I'm pretty sure the only difference in the drives is the spindle speed. It would be partitioned to run two different OS's and would be the startup disc and used for storage. The price difference is $50

HDD spins faster = better performance. 5400rpm drives are really outdated these days. Go for the 7200rpm drive.

None, the increased performance actually compensate the power used... (the task is done quicker....)

the hdd manufacturer admit that them self, making 5400rpm drive became a marketing fluke... :fou:

Technically it 7200 rpm needs more power so more heat and noisier, but it not that much....

(right now some of hdd manufacturer cut of their 5400rpm lines )
