HTPC Intel vs. AMD

I'm looking to build a new HTPC in the next couple of weeks. The focus of my research now comes down to the CPU and Motherboard. I'm not looking to spend more than I have to, but don't want to limit the HTPC's. It should be able to play all media without problems. I've heard that AMD doesn't support 8 channel LPCM output. Has that been fixed or is there a workaround? It would be nice to be able to go with AMD because the AMD CPU and motherboard combo deals at Fry's are so cheap, but again, I don't want to limit the HTPC's capabilities. Any help on making this decision and/or suggested CPUs or motherboard combination would be much appreciated.

For the best HTPC experience and lowest power consumption I would build around the Intel i3 530 chip. Newegg has some nice combo deals like this one. $209.98 (Intel Core i3-530 + ASUS P7H55-M PRO)

If you include all the information in the "How to ask for new build advice" sticky we can help optimize the build.
  2. +1 for the i3-530 and H55 MOBO combination...
  3. +1 for the i3-530 and H55 motherboard combination

    EDIT: AAARRRRGGGG.....double post....
  4. No love for AMDs in HTCPs? OK, thanks for the advice.
  5. I like AMD, but the i3/i5 dual cores were built to be HTPC CPUs. They use less power, don't require a GPU, run extremely cool and are fairly priced (at least for Intel). It also helps that the boards they were built to match (H55/57) are almost all microATX boards.
