I'm using an almost fresh install windows XP and I can't see my second hard drive with Linux Mint installed on it in My Computer however I can see it in the BIOS and the disk management screen, it is formatted as a FAT32 rather than an NTFS but according to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310525 FAT32 is supported on XP so that shouldn't be a problem.

Disk 1 is the second hard drive and all the options such as "mark as active" or "change drive letter" are grayed out, anyone got any ideas?

Solution
if you installed linux mint on that partition then it would be an EXT4 not FAT32 or NTFS partition and windows requires a special driver to be able to read linux partitions.
