hi,

i have 2 processors with me,

the 1st processor is an AMD Phenom X4 9500 Quad-Core processor, it runs at 2.2 GHz

the 2nd processor is an AMD Athlon II X2 215 Dual-Core processor, but it runs at 2.7 GHz

which processor would be better/faster to use on my computer ?

More about : processor faster

I would take the athlon II personally, it may not have 4 cores but from your listed use you don't seem to need them. Better single threaded performance would probably suit you better.

and if it comes on an AM3 board with DDR3 RAM, it would provide a better upgrade path

Good point, that's always a plus.

thanks but also one more thing, on the Quad core processor it sais this :

Cache Size: 4 x 512KB
L3 Cache: 2MB

And on the Dual Core Processor it sais this :

L2 Cache: 1MB

Do you still agree that the Dual Core would be best for me, and the fastest ?

its not really fair to compare them as they arent in the family architecture family or running at the same speed.

You guys are forgetting a little thing we like to call L3 cache.

For internet/msn/movies/music/downloader/music , there is no added benefit of L3 cache.

how have we forgot L3 cache, half this thread has been about cache! and that doesnt make the phenom faster just because it has it.

If it's between those 2 pick the one with lower power consumption. Anything (modern) with 2 or more cores can do all of those things at once.

If you want better speed with those uses you should get a SSD.
