Problem with high end gpus

Hello,
i recently bought ati 4890 and my system became slow when i installed it on my mobo(i installed all the required drivers)my system cinfiguration,
psu:600watts,ram:3gb ddr2,os:win xp(32 bit),processor:dual core 2.8 ghz.why did my system become slow when my gpu works fine

What card did you have before?
