You need to physically look at the motherboard. The make and model number should be on the motherboard somewhere. With that information, we may be able to help.

my os is windows xp professional...
no list from my mother board.... idont know why... all i want is to speed up my cpu..and update my drivers....

Without the actual make and model of motherboard, you really can't determine what CPUs it is compatible with. Looks on the motherboard itself, that information should be stenciled on it somewhere.

By the way, is this a Compaq, HP, or other brand name computer? If so, what model is it?

The p4m266 is a Via chipset that is used in older Pentium 4 (socket 478) motherboards.

Information for the chipset can be found at:

On the same website, you should be able to find generic drivers for most uses.

It appears, from looking at several motherboards using that chipset, that you can use Pentium 4 processors with up to a 533mhz FSB.

im using ddr pc3200 memory..is that ok? any suggestions what to do to my pc to speed it up?

Your system will support Socket 478 processors with up to a 533mhz FSB. However, it is not likely to support hyper-threading (HT) versions. That all being said, the used processor market is quite robust. You might consider one of these model numbers, SL7EY, SL6YH, and SL74Q for maximum compatibility.

Keep in mind, that none of these options will really provide a massive boost in performance and is a bit of a gamble to make sure they will work at all. Definitely stay away from 800 FSB and HT processors. All other 400 and 533 FSB versions "may" work. Really hard to provide definitive guidance without the specific make/model of your motherboard.
