How can I get the task bar reduced ?

I have windows vista and the list of programs ( taskbar?) has doubled in width and fills almost 6 inches of the left of the screen. How can I get that back to a slender luist at the left, maybe 1-2 inches wide ?

Don't know Vista, but in XP you just put your mouse on the edge of the bar. This will give you the ability to size it as if it were any other window. Note that there is an option to lock it so that it can't be moved or resized without unlocking it first (at least there is in XP).

So if you size it back down you could lock it to prevent accidental resizing.
