Cd rom drive wont show in my computer

Lately my DVD ROM/CD RW Drive does not work. I put a disk in, and it spins, then stops. I check My Computer, and the DVD ROM/CD RW Drive icon is not there. The Microsoft website has not been helping me. My computer is a Compaq Presario Notebook PC.

Surprising how often it happens. Itunes seemed to do it to mine

something to try---go to device manager click the plus on the cd/dvd rom, then highlight the drive, go to the top of the page and click uninstall, it will ask "are you sure" click yes, close it down and reboot pc, it should come up and say found new hardware, and your new hardware is installed and ready to use,if this does not fix it then possibly your drive is faulty.
