Hi, I'm going to replace my CD drives soon. My old CD drives had a ribbon cable/IDE connector, and I've been told that the current connector is SATA. I don't see a place for CD drives on my mobo...(Z77 Extreme4)

Hello and welcome to the forum. most of the sata connectors are on one edge of the mb. most times there 6 of them 2 gray and 4 blue. labels sata 6_0 6_1 sata 3_0 to 3_4. if there another sata controller there may be more of these connectors and they be another color. the look like small l with clips on them. the cd rom will have two plugs now a sata power from the power supply and the sata data cable.

on the image on the back of the mb you can see 4 sata ports..two gray and two black. with the cd-rom you want to order a sata data cable that flat on one end and has 45 angle on the other.

depending on the bend and the case the straight end or the 45 may work better.
