I'd like to keep my spending on either to less than $100, but honestly, the number of bad reviews for the SSDs I've read about so far kinda worries me. I'd like something reliable and can store more than Windows 7 on it (not a whole lot more, I have a back up older 250gb SATA HDD as well that I can use. I am hoping for something aroudn 120gb, though), but is that realistic at a $100 (or lower) price point?

yes your price point is realistic. you should definitely go with an SSD. You can find 120G SSD for $65+
