Well I managed to grab another 480 GTX since I can't wait any longer for the PNY one to come in, and I have some photos:) :

So the card is big, its very Alienish...in other it does look good. I also want to add, that if the card isn't good, the sticker that came with it truly is good quality:)  Felt like rubber lol:p

Anyways it requires an 8 pin and a 6 pin and it comes with: HDMI cord, DVI-VGA, 1 6 pin to 8 pin connector and 1 3 pin to 6 pin connector.

Now Benchmarks will come a little later and I will be updating them as I go. I am in Exams so I will be benching in between my breaks.

I'll put this in a chart when I have the chance but I did Benchmark

I will also put sli 480 Benchies when I get the PNY card:D

Benchmarks Coming Slowly:)

Geez L1qu1d, get your priorities straight. Benchmarks definitely take precedence over exams

Yeh, I want you to benchmark Crysis @ 1080p with the UltraHigh GFX mod, AA ranging from 0 to x4 to x8.

I only have a 720p tv ATM. I'm waiting for Monitors to go down in Price and I'm going to buy a 120hz 1080p Monitor:)

I added some Benchies quick of games I could find quick :p

Quake 4, Crysis 1, Stalker Clear Sky

Next will be GTA, Dirt 2, BF BC 2 and AVP (<3)

Idles at 54 degrees with 44% fan speed.
Running THe unigine Engine Benchmark it Capped at 85 Degrees Celsius:)  the fan did go up to 60% but from where I am I can't hear it:) .

I am about 5 feet away from the Tower.

My God I maxed out the fan to 100% its louder than having the CD drive spin with a CD next to you...WOW! lol Not doing that anymore!

Update

I am selling the other 480 GTX (PNY) for 600$ cash locally, since I have a microATX board...I'd much rather grab a Koolance Water block and see some serious OCing of a 480 GTX:)

Anywho thats the update:D

So, one thing I'd be curious to know after you actually get some time to use the card is how it "feels" compared to the 5870. In other words things that cannot be revealed by FPS alone, like how fluid they feel, if either has any graphics anomalies, if one looks better (IQ), etc. I know not very scientific, so I guess all I'm asking is if something along those line catches your eye, post it. Thanks again.

MAJOR problems with GTA 4, clipping and stutters...even though the Frames are higher, the characters during the cut scenes look as though they have the shakes.

Crysis does seem to have richer Textures though...the water looks the same and same with the God rays, but the foliage seems to stand out more ont he 480 GTX. But that might be in my head.

Stalker seems to also have that stutter here and there, but it might just have been a bug, considering it was only 1 character around the fire that had the problem.

The card does get loud...when I was playing GTA 4 it showed. And Also it seems to clock up for very unnecessary tasks.

The card is very solid though. In Serious Sam HD it rammed up more frames both AVG and Min than 2 5870s in cf. It was shocking.

Hawx it was a very strong runner as well. It just seems as though the drivers are a bit more stable. The games also load faster...but that might be in my head:S

Unigine is truly remarkable though...I would love to get a game like that going :p . It pumped more AVG than the 2 5870s almost. It had a higher min though.

Again, this card gets hot. Really HOT.

Impressive. Can't imagine what a card this would have been if it worked as designed (or when/if it gets shrunk).

It's a badass card now. It will be straight gangsta later. I wish i could buy one. 177.4 gb/s bandwidth is blazin. I thought I was doing alright with my 5750. i feel so ... inadequate.

Thanks for the benches. You must be a brainiac seeing that you are doing this during exams.

One question though, in your honest opinion, do you think that it is worth the extra $100 over the 5870?
April 20, 2010 3:18:15 AM

Sick benchies, but isnt $600 a bit much. I can get one from infonec at dundas for $530.
April 20, 2010 3:22:13 AM

Yeah I changed the price to 550 cash. I am taking down the Kijiji.

As for the price of 480 vs 5870, I would say the 5870 is the better buy. Unless your looking to buy a Water block and oc it...in which case then your better off grabbing the 5970.

This card is only for 1080p or more. It shines at High resolutions and AA enabled. If none of those are your motives, then the 5870 or lower will def be the MUCH better buy.

Thanks for the reply.

Now if I take the bus and eat one meal a day, I will be able to afford the 5870 in about.............. 8 months...........

Well, if you're feeling lucky there is L1qu1d's giveaway (if you haven't already entered) or Newegg's give away of some 480s/470s (if in USA only I think).

Not when you cannot buy them right now lol

Liquid

I'm liking the max framerates! But how much heat does it put into the case as opposed to the 5870?

I have an antec 300 and my 5870 does create a pocket of warm air about half an inch around the vid card.
April 20, 2010 3:52:36 AM

one thing good about the 480 is i does get hot but it vents alot of it out of the rear. Its pretty much the same from the 5870 to 480 when it comes to component temps. I think its more the card blocking air from getting out then the card putting more hot air in. But more tests will be done. It might have made my CPU go up 1 degree Celsius. Again I do need to confirm:p

Great, a 480 is worth more than a 470, OC those 480s as they have a much better cooler than the 470 :D

Even though my pocket is drier than the Sahara in the middle of summer after a 5000 year drought, I know that there are people in worse situations than me. I thought about it, but decided not to.

My 5870 will come some day......

Another question, what case is that card in?
April 20, 2010 4:24:14 AM

Thermaltake Armour Can't remember which 1. I'm getting a new case though...I need something a bit better organized...

that's how i got my v8 put in my car. which in hindsight, has not been worth it. I had a perfectly good slant six to put in which i had gotten for the low low cost of my own sweat, but for some reason, i decided to get a v8, a p.o.s, but a v8. but engine swaps always cost more than you plan...
