I have an lsp550 watt ultra power supply, with 360 watt total output on the 12v rail so it only has 30 amp. Currently i run a Q6600 at 3.0ghz a 4850, and one 7200rpm hard drive with no problems at all. I was wondering if I would be able to run a 5850 with this power supply.

looking at many charts on total system power the 4850 and 5850 are identical in their maximum power usage (both at ~150watts) why is it that the 4850 can run on a 30A but people are saying the 5850 cannot?

Also using this website: http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp with my system as it is currently configured with a 5850 (if i buy one) i need a recommended 350 watts of continuous power
and applying the formula to this: current (amps) = power (watts) / voltage (volts), wouldnt I need 350/12 = 29.2 amps of power maximum? I am just confused how the required amperage in a system really works.
Thanks in advance

itll be fine. the 5xxx series is actually more power efficient for the performance.

yes with some research i found this other power supply just for comparisons sake:
CORSAIR CMPSU-400CX which also only has 30 Amp on 12v rail and it is only rated at 400watt vs my 550 watt (but i guess mine is overstated)

nonetheless people all over the net have been shown to be able to run even a gt260, with a fully loaded quad core overclocked pc on this 30Amp 400 watt power supply.
I think i should be fine I was just going by what was said in the other thread that 40amps is a minimum but I now think thats overstated
