Hi everybody.
Extracted from an external Usb drive whose supply has failed, my 250G WD Ide drive works if it is directly connected on Ide connector.
Via an Usb-Ide adapter it appears as "not formatted" drive.
Have you any ideas ?

Thank you in advance.

that is strange. can you connect a different IDE drive to your adapter to verify the adapter is working?

I connected to another IDE drive, and got the same result. Including on two different machines.
Do you think my adapter is HS ?
It is new, but it proves nothing !

Thank you for your attention.
Best regards.

okay so we know your hard disk is okay because it works when you plug it directly into the computer. we also know that multiple hard disks do not work with your adapter. therefore it is safe to say your adapter is indeed HS.

If HS = defective then yes.

Sorry for the "HS" (Hors Service = out of order)

So, I have to thank you and ... buy another adapter.

Thank you very much.

Hi,
I did a test with 2 adapters (that work) lent by a friend of mine.
One works. The other two give the same result: "your disk needs to be formatted".

Thank you for your help.
