I want to build a computer based on either an i5 or an i7 processor. Priorities for this system are gaming > movies > gimp > general browsing. Looking for high performance graphics and sound quality with little-to-no computer sounds (quiet fans preferred, etc.). So far I've looked up some items and I am probably missing a few things from this list, I also need to add wireless capability. The computer is intended to play SC2 on ultra graphics and last for many years to come.

Welcome to the forums!
Well, how much do you want to spend on your graphics card and your cooling system? We can then make some recommendations. Thanks!

I have a few suggestions.

Faster ( speed and timings ) memory for cheaper: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231303

The best case in that price range in my opinion: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129066

A faster larger hard drive for the same price: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185
This drive has the newer 500GB platter design......the WD has 3 x 333GB platters, the Spinpoint has 2 x 500GB platters.....the denser the platter the faster the drive.

As to video card what kind of budget do you have? If you want high end look for an HD 5850 or even 5870.

You also will want an aftermarket CPU cooler if you plan to overclock. The Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus is a good one for a good price.

Edit: Sorry about that I linked you to newegg USA not Canada on those first 2. My recommendations still stand although the prices will of course be different.

Willing to spend as much as required for a good graphics card able to play starcraft 2 on ultra; preferably the total cost of the computer will be about $1600 or less.

With that 24in monitor I believe a HD 5850 would be the best bet for you then along with my other recomendations.
