I reformatted a Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop. Did all of the updates including sp3. My USB mouse works, but any drives (Flash drive or powered Hard drive) are not installed when plugged in. I uninstalled the all USB controllers and root hubs in Device Manger, Turned off, unplugged with no batteries for a min, and rebooted with same result. I also bought a USB 2.0 card Bus Adapter to slide in but when I do the same message. First the found new hardware ballon opens "found new Hardware. NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller" Then, the Found New Hardware Wizard opens and says a problem installing USB controller....data is invalid. Can someone please help.
