I can give you this data point:
I compared a Toshiba 1.5GHZ Pentium M (Dothan, 2GB Cache) with a
Toshiba 3.2GHZ Pentium 4 a few weeks ago. On CPU-intensive image
conversion, the P4 was about 20% faster than the PM. This roughly
scales to what you are comparing. On some tasks PM might do even
better than this.
The P4 might run hot with a noisy fan, FYI. At 3.4GHZ the CPU might
be pretty warm.
