I was looking at New Egg as a buddy told me they have card with 4 times more memory for under $100.
But they are DDR2 and DDR3.
Can I still use them?

DDR2 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150433

DDR3 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161308

Or do I have to use a card with GDDR3 like the card Im using?

  1. GDDR3 = DDR3 when talking about video ram. You should be able to use either of those cards. The one with the DDR3 is going to be faster because of memory speed.
  2. K thanks very much rolli.
I tried to compare my card with the cards in questions on the chart but couldnt find either card (the Radeon 4650 HD 1 GB or my X800 Pro 256 on the few charts I looked thru to see the performance difference.
Hopefully Best Buy stores will have the card in question so I dont have to order thru New Egg (though havebefore with zero issues).

HD4650 (GDDR3) is 13 tiers down from the top. HD4650 (DDR2) is two tiers below that and the X800XT is another tier below that.

Another comparison option (though no benchmarks) is http://gpureview.com/

I couldn't find my X800 Pro so I used the XT for comparison

Shame no FPS as for a gamer that's all I care about. But still I can see for just over a $100 the 4670 with 1mb on board ram should make a big difference to hold me over till I get a new PC.
Thanks guys for all the input. Love Toms hardware been a member since Al Gore invented the internet.W
