Windows on hard drive, connected by usb?

Hello,

I just bought an ide/sata usb adapter that allows you to connect a hard drive to the usb of a computer, I was wondering if their is any way I can attach it to my computer and add a fresh install of windows too it. So when I attach the hard drive to another computer It will be ready to go. Is this possible, and if so.. how ?

you can install Windows but once you move the hard drive to a different computer you will most likely run into BSOD due to driver problems

What do you mean, I have had more times often than not, in which I can switch a hard drive into another computer and use it just fine, if I added windows in this way, is it any different than doing a fresh install on a computer and switching it out?

I have an older laptop that is xp capable but doesn't have a cd-rom drive, which is why I need to know.

you could try just make sure not to update any drivers until the drive is in the laptop.

how about putting the hard drive into the laptop and then use that ide/sata usb adapter to connect a CD-Rom drive to the laptop.
