Ok well this is what I had came up with for my new gaming rig. I didn't have too much time for in-depth research but I think it is pretty good.

I was thinking of getting a new hard drive because this one seems out of date. Any suggestions?

Depends on how much capacity you need. The current build I'm working in is going to be a 1TB drive. The Samsung Spinpoint F3 is a good one at that capacity.

For gaming the HD5850 is batter. What monitor do you have (resolution)?

I have a 19 in monitor with 1280x1024. I was looking at the 5850 but I didn't think the extra 150 would be worth it.

I also am trying to justify the 58-- over the 57-- series... it's over twice as much. Wouldn't it be worth it to just get the 57--, wait a few years until the 58-- comes down to a similar price, and then upgrade and / or crossfire?

Or does it depend on how hardcore you are about gaming...

A 5770 is okay then. We usually assume 1920x1080 gaming, since it's relatively cheap.
