thanks for the link :)
As at the end it says, not everyone needs such a beast, but it performance is excellent also the temps are good, the only thing i didn't like was its power consumption

Since no mention of price after two articles. I guess 999.99. Not a penny less.
It has a nice game bundle and a 100 dollar display adapter. Which IMO, is a good idea, because of all the confusion around the 'display port'. That price matches up good (for both 'teams') against GTX 480 SLI. Lets get ready to rumble !

Yeah power consumption is always gonna be a problem with the high end cards. But hey, still not much more than fermi. I wish they would have included some overclocking results, im sure they could have gotten pretty far with such a huge cooler.

Probably at $800 - $900 mark. The cooler and RAM doesn't cost that much. Professionals do the pricing of the products, they won't release it at GTX 480 SLI prices. Then again the 5970 MRSP at $599 but cost $699. The GTX 480 sports a MRSP of $500 but tough to find one less than $550, even $599 is common. So a $1000 price tag would technically cost less than GTX 480 SLI.

They don't get much further with a bigger cooler. Maxed out OC would be something like 1050mhz core and 1250mhz memory.

Still less power than any nVidian SLI, will obviously run cooler too because of the massive cooling. Probably no need to trifire here, though seeing this plus an OC'd HD5870 would be pretty sweet.

Now, what happens when we OC this? Remember the point of a 5970 is to OC it to the stock HD5870 levels. We've achieved that. What happens when it's put up to 1000+ core and 5200 memory (if possible)?

Going from 900mhz to 1000mz probably wouldnt make a whole lot of difference, maybe 5% or so. Would probably still be quite possible with this card though.

That review was a bit lacking in number of games. They missed out on a lot of the big ones.

The mermoy definitely can't go over 1250mhz because it isn't rated for that.

I worked with two 5970s and neither of them went over 1025mhz-1050mhz core on the maxed voltage I can feed it (1.3v)
Maybe if I got a card with unlocked bios to increase the voltage more but im not putting my warranty at stake to prove some numbers.

It was probably me because I do play BC2 XD

As for that card. Makes you wonder why ATI didn't do that cooler in the first place.
Also wow $1000 price mark is a bit extreme. Nvidia aside, they would still be competing with their own lineup. You can get a 5970 and a 5850 on top of that for trifire. Admittably no 4GB of RAM. So I guess if someone spent a lot of money on a lot of 30" monitors and actually need the 4GB RAM, they wouldn't care for $1000 either.

These cards are for the people with 3-6 monitors, lol. No point in getting one without it.

When will it stop ? Seriously , when do we reach the threshold of no "practical" improvement ?
