Linux compatibility advice for new build (VDPAU)

May 24, 2010 3:13:37 AM

I have a quote from a computer store (Central Computers) and would like to be sure that there would be no unexpected compatibility problems with Linux.
They will not be installing the OS, I will, likely Xubuntu 10.4.

One area of concern is that I want to be able to drive two monitors simultaneously, one of them HD1080 using VDPAU for H.264.
I selected a video board on the list for feature set C. Otherwise video demands are just X windows. Here is the list:

ASUS P6X58D mb
Intel i7-930 2.8GHz
Corsair C626-9X DDR3-1 6x2GB (12GB)
EVGA 512-P3-1213-LR GeForce 210 512MB 64-bit DDR2

Zalman CNPS10X FLEXT CPU cooler +
Antec TruePower TP-650 650W
CM67 Coolermaster RC-922M-KKN1-GP
Sony/NEC AD-7260S-OB SATA DVD+/-RW DL
Seagate 500GB hard drive

(Total comes to $1500)

Thanks for any advice you can give.
