My Dell Latitude CP laptop is over three years old now and the screen
goes just stripey vertical colours from start up. I've plugged a
external monitor in and I get the same fault.
Is it the video card or something and how can I fix it, can anyone
help? I would like to save it.

Sounds like maybe a software problem. OS corruption.
I would clean the HD and install windows fresh again.

You will probably need to replace the video cable.

If you are getting the same results on external monitor theres a
problem in the deciphering circuit most likely. Some laptops have a
surface mount IC thats an LVDS (low voltage deciphering). Worst case
scenario is a motherboard replacement. We would be happy to help if
your stateside and need to have it repaired. www.ikenfixit.com
