Buy now, or buy later?

Hey,
I have a woefully underpowered desktop, and I was wondering whether I should build a new one now, or just wait it out, and build 3-4 months later. I have a commitment of ~$500 to books for school, and I will make an additional ~$1000 on top of the $500. I was wondering, whether I should set aside the $500 now, and build a new rig later, or if I should just save up another $500 and then build the rig, and then pay my obligation later. My real worry is that in the 3-4 months time that I'll make the cash that tech will already be ahead of me if I do a build now. So that's why I wanted to build later. What do you all think?

Looking for a gaming computer?
What are you using right now? List your hardware so the guys know if you can recycle any of your parts into the new system.

The longer you wait you might have a better chance of future proofing the PC, but of course so people put things off for to long and end up not doing it. I would say if you really want a computer I recommend $800.00 to make a nice build for you. Its just up to you all I can say is if you want a build now just tell use on Tomshardware your location and budget and possibly what your looking to get out of this build or PC.

Hey, I have the following parts... the ones I have with (parenthesis) and a price inside is the price I plan to sell them for, and the ones with the * are ones I plan to use in the next build.

ATI HD5770 ($160)/* If I can sell I will, and get a 5850...
4gb ddr2 ram @667 mhz ($50-$80)
MSI 790XT-G45 (~$90)
500w PSU *
500gb HDD *
AMD Athlon X2 6400+ (~$100)

I had an idea we might have been talking about something on the order of a X2 3800+ and Radeon 3850.

With a HD 5770 and Athlon X2 6400 in use right now I'd suggest paying all bills first.
It's not that bad of a gaming system.

I was getting ready to build my own, but have now decided this is a good time to wait a while and let things smooth out a bit.

I'm looking at a rig that would run me over $3000 right now, that's because I want a 5970, I want a couple of SSD's.

I think this is a bad time to purchase these items. By Christmas, I think these 2 items will come down enough to make them more approachable.

Your going to wait it off, well I hope you get the computer you want sooner or later man. I know I'm saving up to get my AMD 6 CORE in my PC right now.

Okay, thanks... I appreciate the help... it looks like I'm going to pay for books first, and then get a new rig.
