mouse does not work...please advise!

to anyone that can help me, my mouse cursor on my desktop pc is not
functioning. the cursor is there, but it will not work. currently the
optical mouse is connected to the mouse port, not USB. it worked fine this
morning, but as of tonight, it doesn't. please advise as soon as possible.

Have you tried reseating the mouse plug and rebooting?..

yea of course. i even tried reinstalling the usb 2.0 driver for my
motherboard and it still doesn't work. any other reason as to why this is
occurring?

Not sure why you thought that re-installing USB would have any effect.. you
might try re-installing mouse software, and if that doesn't work, go to your
local pc store and ask them to try out your mouse.. it is not unknown for
computer mice to die..

If it was working fine this morning, have you tried using System Restore to
take you back to a time prior to when this issue began? Start\All
Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Restore.

Check the batteries - if batteries are OK, the laser beam should be strong.

PS2 optical mouse gets its power down the cable, not from batteries..
