Repeat/Extend Wireless School Network?

Last response: in Wireless Networking

Hello,

I used to live in a school dorm with an unencrypted wireless access for students to use (you connect to unencrypted signal but authenticate using a web browser once connected). For my sophomore year I have moved to an apartment just across the street from the dorm. From up in my room I no longer see the signal, but from the bench just outside my window on my ground I can connect. Is there some type of device or antenna I can buy to connect to the network from my new apartment? I'm not sure what device the school is using to broadcast the signal with. I think it's a Cisco device, but that's all I know. Thanks so much.

Do you not think it's better and more considerate to ask the Schools network Administrator this one rather here at than Tom's?

It's at a university with something like 30,000 students. The last thing the IT department wants is to answer a simple question like this. I asked for help, not scrutiny. If you don't have advice to give, please don't respond.

Who's scrutinising - unless you feel fuilty about soomething? :D  It's better to ask them because they might be able to boost the signal to you without interfering with signals already in the whole apartment block.
