I am building my first PC with a Phenom. Will my Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3 AM3 AMD work well with a Phenom ll x 4 945? The reviews talk highly of the board but I cannot find anything on the combination of the two. This desktop will be used primarily for Photoshop. This is not a gamer.

yes it will. Go to the GB website, look up the motherboard, from there you can download tech manuals, a list of approved processors and memory. Check Fry's electronics for AMD processor bargains.

Well there has been (4) revisions of that MOBO! The latest GA-MA770T-UD3 (rev. 1.5) supports the 3 versions of the 945. My assumption the 'problems' are gear towards earlier renditions of the GA-MA770T-UD3.

As per Photoshop, Intel CPU/Chipset performance is generally superior, and as you well know: more RAM plus a fast {SSD} scratch drive is the way to go.

Thanks both for the good advice. This PC will be for my nearly computer illiterate mother in law who has a habit of running too many apps at the same time on her POS dell. Her photoshop needs will be minimal. If she pushes this setup to its limit then she deserves to crash. It'll have 8G of RAM, 2T of HD and a cheap but decent Video card. It'll be fun watching her expression when she realizes she dosen't have to wait 15 minutes for it to boot.
