I recently bought one from Aldi for 999 UKP.

80G drive, 512K RAM, ATI graphics, DVD read/writer.
1400x1050 LCD. Various bits that usually extras.
Seemed a decent deal.

However some things don't seem as good as I would like.

The keyboard bows up a little in the middle,
and therefore flexes in the middle - the glue underneath does not hold it
down permanently.
The Fn key should not be where the Ctrl key usually is either, IMHO.

The LCD contrast and vertical viewing angle doesn't seem as good as I recall
various machines in shops.
Windows' grey appears blue-tinted, more like pale slate.
And there is a noticeable brightness gradient,
brightest at the top (like cinema screen lighting before the film starts.

Not such a pain with white backgrounds, but more noticeable on dark
backgrounds (which look less than black).

Do Gericom skimp on LCD quality to squeeze the price?

Is a second (top) CCFL necessary for least light gradient?

Or are most laptop screens significantly inferior to CRT?

Anyone else got an opinion on these machines?

I had hoped to get rid of my bulky monitor, but it looks like I should keep
it for DVD viewing.

Look at the bottom of the machine, is the model number N251C1 or similar?

Can't see any number like that.
Does "MS1003 serie" provide any clue?
