Ego iomega phd beeping

I have a 320 GB eGo 2.0 phd Iomega. The status ligh is lit, but it beeps 1/sec.
Dose this devive REQUIRE a power cable?

no it does not use a power cable. are you sure it beeps? It does not have a speaker on it. perhaps it is your computer that is beeping?

The device is definety beeping. It does have a power supply port, but we never used it before, ~ 2years. im elec engr /w masters in computer sci. But not familiar with
this product though. Iomega site mentions no beeping.

oh some usb ports do not provide enough power for the external drive and that is what the power cable is for. you are welcome to try it. you can also try removing the disk from the enclosure and trying to install it into your computer or another enclosure to determine if the disk itself is bad or just the external case.
