thanks.
i have win7 64bit, Athlon II x4 635 CPU, Biostar GF8600 MoBo. looking to upgrade mobo but the EVO has no onboard graphics. what would i need to keep/remove in order to get picture through gpu after swapping the board from under win7. is it even possible?
again any help appreciated
...and sorry about my vague first question

What mobo and RAM do you have? Biostar GF8600 should be a video card not a motherboard. If you have a video card you don't need a mobo with onboard graphics.

You can get a mobo with onboard video though, it doesn't hurt and it's about the same price:
ASRock 880GXH/USB3

GIGABYTE GA-880GA-UD3H

ASUS M4A88T-V EVO/USB3

but for those mobos you need DDR3 RAM

If you connect the monitor at the motherboard's video port it will use the mobo's graphics. If you add the video card and connect to the video card's connector, it will use the video card's graphics. Your video card is old, I say use the mobo's graphics and ditch the video card, the onboard video is good for Internet, movies and even light gaming. If you want to play demanding games you need a new better video card, that one is cheaper:

thank you for the detailed reply.
My Mobo is a Biostar GF8200E (sorry) i have a ATI radeon 5770 GPU. the RAM im using wont fit in ASUS M4A87TD EVO (which i already have) so i'll need to purchase some before i can make the swap. im just at a bit of a loss as to how i would go about removing/installing drivers and or changing BIOS settings to get the ASUS M4A87TD EVO working.
