Installing a HDD alongside my current SSD?

Hey,

Just the other day I installed my new Samsung 830 128GB SSD. I've installed Windows 7 and installed some programs and games etc. What I want to know is can I install my old Samsung HD502HJ 500GB and format it through Windows. If this is possible how? I would like to use my old hard drive inside my build for media storage.

Yes, just reattach the drive to the motherboard and windows should recognize it. go to "computer", right click the drive and select format. If the drive doesn't show up under "computer", then you can do this from disk management.

It should use the next available drive letter. You can always change the drive letter in disk management.

So there will be no conflicts between my SSD and HDD. My HDD still has Windows 7. Am I alright in just formatting it and what about boot options. I'm running my SSD in AHCI, will this effect the HDD?

The only possible problem will be the boot order in the BIOS. You'll need to enter your BIOS and make sure your SSD is listed before the hard drive in the boot order. Once you have done that, there will be no problems.

Yes, NTFS is the standard for windows.
