Buying SC2 and need a new PSU, best Combo?

I am going to buy SC2, which is $60 almost everywhere. Currently I have an ancient computer that I am trying to update component by component. I think the most bang for the buck would be a new GPU, but I am concerned that the PSU that was included in my ~$60 Xion case (~350W?) is not quality enough to push a new GPU?

So when looking on Newegg, they had ~$100-$120 combo's with new PSU with SC2. My question is, is one of these a much better quality PSU than the others? I can not find them in the PSU rankings pages. Thanks!

The antec 650W was very highly rated on Tom's.

More about buying combo
  1. i would take the xfx unit first followed by the antec. SC2 is not a graphically demanding game, a you may get more of out a CPU upgrade. what are the specs of your PC?
  2. Sorry, it is a low quality 450W PSU

    Here is some other info:

    AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ Windsor 2.8GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM2 89W Dual-Core Processor ADA5600CZBOX
    2X1GB plus 2X2GB DDR2-800 RAM
    2 hard drives (1 sata, 1 IDE)
    2 DVD drives
    Currently a 7600GT GPU that I want to upgrade to anywhere from a 5750 1GB to a GTX460 1GB.
  3. The XFX is a great deal, quality is top-notch and is relatively cheap.

Heres one with an Antec Earthwatts 750W for $120 though: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.454568
  4. So am I correct that I should not upgrade my GPU with my current PSU?

The XFX 650W or antec 750W would be plenty for my current system with a GTX460?

    Even if/when I upgrade to a 130W processor (in 6-12 months)?
  5. Even with SLIed GTX460s and a Thuban, you should be fine with either PSU.
  6. If it is overkill, then I should go with the 620W? I do not think I will ever SLI.
  7. Best answer
Since it costs less than the 620W AR, get the XFX. Running a PSU with lots of overhead helps extends its life by quite a bit and you can use things like PSUs on your next build.
