Hello, let me start off saying sorry if this is in the wrong section. I'm looking for a replacement motherboard and cpu

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: 28 may, this Friday BUDGET RANGE: Around 200 After Rebates

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Gaming, internet surfing, office work

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: Everything but the motherboard and cpu. current power supply is an unknown 650w, can find out more but this is not my computer, so will have to wait to get it in front of me if more details are needed.

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: newegg.com

PARTS PREFERENCES: none

OVERCLOCKING: Maybe, but most likely no SLI OR CROSSFIRE: yes, unless raises cost too much

MONITOR RESOLUTION:1680x1050

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: This is a replacement, i already have ddr 2 memory and don't want to have to move to ddr3, mainly because of budget. sli/crossfire would be nice but not used for quite sometime so not necessary.

This is my first post here but i know you guys are very helpful, so let me just say thank you in advance.

Here's some combo deals to consider. There aren't really many motherboards that support DDR2 and Crossfire still available. I wouldn't worry about Crossfire with this upgrade.

It is a decent board...

I'm not a fan of MSI but I had a personal bad experience with them :(

I guess i'm going to use this board & cpu

MSI 790XT-G45 AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

AMD Phenom II X4 945 Deneb 3.0GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

this cpu is not on the supported list for that motherboard, but the rest of the Phenom II X4's are even a bunch of the Deneb ones. Am I ok with this cpu & motherboard combo.

I just checked the MSI website in the motheboard supports the Phenom II X4 945 with BIOS version with 7388v22, so you are good with the combination.

I feel like I should mention one thing. The terms SLI and Crossfire are not interchangeable. What GPU do you currently have? The motherboard you picked supports Crossfire, but not SLI. Just an FYI.

oh Thank You for reminding me, i knew that but i thought that was a thing of the past. The Card he currently has is a 9800 nvedia (not certain exactly what company made it, i can check when i get home). I guess I am back to scraping the sli/xfire idea, i guess i will stick with the original recommendation and get this board/cpu

Thanks again for catching that.

lol, changed my mind again this is the combo i'm currently looking at

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor Model HDZ955FBGMBOX + GIGABYTE GA-MA785GM-US2H AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 785G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

my question, the manufacture page says it only supports that cpu with the f5 bios. What are the chances of buying it from newegg.com and it having that bios revision. I have no way to update it if it does not?

Your guess is as good as ours.... If the F5 BIOS have been out 6 months or more, I would say it is likely but still an educated guess.
