Screen resolution wrong for hdmi monitor on pc

I have a 26" hdtv I'm trying to use as a monitor using an hdmi cable. So far the desktop displays but no screen resolution for my pc (windows 7) shows the whole screen. I'm getting screen cut off on all sides. Windows identifies the tv as TTE HDTV. Any suggestions?

Roughly a half-inch border all the way around, right? Any chance you're using a 4000-series ATI video card, too? Seems this happens with a lot of them...

Some TV screens have a "FILL or STRETCH" option to expand the image all around the border. Does yours have this?

Also what resolution are you using? When you say HDTV, do you mean a real 1080P LCD or one of those cheapo 720P HDTVS?

We need a little more information to help you out.

Like the poster said above, what video card are you using?

Thanks for the responses. I got the correct display by playing around with the tv's display settings but had to turn it and the pc off and restart.
