Just got my 5850 and was wondering what driver I should use since many users here are complaining about the 10.3/10.3a.

More about : driver 5850

i tried it, and it caused way more issues than it solved. wait for the official release IMO.

the BC2 loading times aren't that bad anyway.

I don't think there is one.

in game v-sync, but can;t force thru the drivers. i havn't seen it at all, though i havn't actually looked for it.

Well I must be doing something wrong here. I have the GPU at stock settings, CPU at 3.8Ghz and I scored 19.1k in 06.

Settings in CCC are ALL set to performance, Using AB for the fan curve and Smart Doctor to OC later on..

Here is a shot :

my GTX 260 does 18.8K at 5% OC and 19,055 @ 20% OC.

im pretty sure vantage is the single must unreliable benchmark that people are still using.

i really wouldn't sweat it man, not only are the benchmarks heavily nvidia skewed, but just plain inaccurate for gauging a systems power.

run some real bechmarks, ie. game benchmarks (stalker COP, crysis, etc)

vsync is under 3D -> all -> Wait for vertical refresh.

That score doesn't sound too far off. I haven't run an OC'ed CPU and unOC'ed card test though. Crank it up to 850+ and you'll be in the 21-22k + range.

I use the 10.3a driver.

Yea but how is it that my GTX 260 scores 18.8k @ 5% OC and the 5850 scores 19.1k???

I can understand Vantage scoring lower because of PPU but 19.1k is not impressive IMO... Going to OC and re-test with Warhead/06/Vantage etc... brb..

i actually only get 19.4 with my heavily OCd 5870.

like i said, vantage is useless.

06 seems extremely CPU bound with my 5850. Either that or it doesn't like ATI cards/Drivers.

06 really isn't demanding enough to stress these cards.

right now, the only synthetic remotely worth running is unigine heaven.

i really wouldn't worry about synthetics though man, its in game performance that really matters.

yeah, the low temps are awesome. IMO its what gives the 58xx cards a standing right now. i can overvolt and still be running at less than 60c.

im surprised you don't max out BC2 though. HBAO makes a world of difference to the visuals.

sorry about post above. was on my phone, and it 'tarded out. was gonna say i get the same temp at idle, very nice.

good results too, mine are here:

not far behind, given the price difference.

no worries =) I removed that post...

Anyways 975 is not as stable as I thought, how much voltage do I have to give the GPU at that clock?

i don't really know about the 5850.

i guess just keep bumping and testing, and watch the temps.

as you can see, i have mine at 1.25v for 1000mhz. imp retty sure anything up to about 1.3 is safe

new score :

This thing fly's when overvolted, im amazed at the temps but I am also not going to push over 1000.

Anyone know how far i can push this thing w/o breaking it?

Nice results, I agree with the other poster than said 1.3V as the limit. Make sure your temps stay below 90C

Got my HD5850 at 1000/1200 with 1.225V. I did try 1250 for mem, but didn't notice any difference in benchmarks.

BTW, I think your CPU is pulling down your overall score in Vantage.

that was an 06 run, and it hit 61c max at 1.23v meaning it can go higher without much effort. But the downside is my CPU just like you pointed out.. My question is what CPU can I buy that will actually be worth it? Thuban is the only option..

I wouldn't worry about it, theres not really a processor you can buy that wont bottleneck on a CPU demanding benchmark at 1280 x 1024 (ok, maybe a 980X at something like 4.6Ghz)

My ci7 920 at 4459Mhz is still limiting my 5850's maximum frames in 3dmark06 : /

Anyway we don't games at 1280 x 1024 so it doesn't really matter

Nice temps man, what fan speed you using for that?

Seems like SmartDoc. is limiting your OCing to 1250Mem and 900Core, Just use MSI Afterburner or edit the BIOS like I did.

Hmmm...weird, I can go past 1000Mhz core. I'm just using MSI though. I've got a Gigabyte card so no ASUS SmartDoctor for me.

i think its an issue with afterburner not liking freq.s past 1000. ive heard a few reviews mention it, so i think it can sometimes be an issue.

Not sure why I can overvolt in Doctor but not in Afterburner. That's the reason why im capped at 1000/2500..

Anyways no complaints here because if anything I can pop in a second one a run a nice CF setup.

1000/1250 is about 95% stable at 1.232v / 100% stable @ 1.253v
