Router security key yet again...

Hello, I've read the suggestions. I've tried all the options listed and still cannot find my security key (it's evidently different than a password). Soft or hard reboot, trying to access the router by typing in the mac address, resetting the router and disconnecting the router completely then setting up a new router (although it's the same WRT54G Lynksis--I tried to fool my computer)none of it works. Somewhere along the path, I'm asked for my security key and nowhere on the path am I given any security key. I'm simply trying to connect my work laptop computer to my home wireless router so I can work from home without plugging into the router. Any advice at all as to another solution? ..Thanks
