Hello, what would the Geforce GTS 240 512MB DDR3, D-sub, DVI,HDMI, be equivalent to in regards to the geforce 8800 or 9300 for example

It wouldn't, the 9300 isn't a real graphics card, it's an integrated chip on a mobo. The 8800 has been revived onto the 9600 GX, the 9800 GTX, and some features were added as well as the die shrunk down to make the GeForce 250. So no a 240 would be superior to a 9400 but not the 8800, depending on specific features you might want.

It loses to an HD5670, is on par with a 9600GT, and is better than an HD4670/9500GT/9600GSO.

the 9600GT actually runs Crysis better then the GTS 240 but otherwise as stated the two Nvidia cards offer very similar performance. The 9600GT is a great card to OC though.
