Connect a home theater system to my PC?

I want to connect my 2.1 Channel system to my PC.
Can I do this simply via my SPDIF out of my mobo to the optical port on my system? Is this done using a Toslink cable?

  1. As long as the audio is being put out via the computer, and the SPDIF on the theater system is input, that will work just fine.
  2. Okay. It is one of those home theater systems with a DVD player built in. I am guessing that wont work.
  3. What "audio out" type ports does your DVD Player/Theater system have?

yes u can just use SPIDIF, so long as it has the connection, and you put the right inputs and outputs, it will work.
what is the make and the model of the home theatre by the way?
