Wd elements external hard drive files are there but cannot see

I have WD elements 1tb external hd hooked up to a WD media player, the issue is when i want to delete or transfer photos or movie over to the external hd i can not see the file, but files are shown on the media player and hard drive space shows items are still there. How can i make it visable again.
