I can currently get the Phenom II X4 965 for 252 USD
But i can also get the X6 for 230 USD

They are pushing me to get the X6 cuz it has 6 cores and is cheaper...but according to reviews the X4 is better for a gaming rig.

I building a gaming rig, which i will also use for work when i need to...but mainly a gaming rig.
Don't link me other prices plz cuz these are the only 2 i can get - i dont purchase online.

So should i get X6?

Get the Phenom II X6 if you plan to overclock, (is the 1035T?) otherwise just get the Phenom II X4 965. If it is the 1035T then just go for the Phenom II X4 965.

Then if you don't mind overclocking the 1055T to 3.4 GHz or so you'll get better performance than the 965 BE.

But if i overclock the X4 couldn't i get even higher? or is it not much of a difference that i'd notice?

You could overclock it higher, and in multi-GPU setups, a higher oc would be more noticeable. I'm just saying 3.4 GHz as that is what you'd need to beat the Phenom II X4 in gaming. You can overclock the Phenom II X6 1055T quite well, just as well as the Phenom II X4 965 BE C3 stepping, if not better.

x6 is slower when it comes to gaming and single thread app due to lower clock. but i think More that enough specially if your gaming in anything below 1080p...... but i would want a x6 if u have plans for xfire/sli later on
